| Teaching
and technology |
Teachers
and lecturers are dedicated professionals
with many demands
placed upon them each day. In addition to their
teaching duties they are required to develop
teaching programmes, design lesson materials,
conduct research, mark examinations, evaluate
assignments, attend faculty meetings, supervise
staff and students, interview parents and support
extra curricular activities. The list goes
on.
Technology
has been added to this mix and educators are
now encouraged and even mandated in some
instances to incorporate elements of information
technology among the suite of teaching and learning
strategies that they employ each day.
How can
educators implement information technology and
develop blended learning solutions in an
efficient and practical way? There are a variety
of methods that teachers can apply:
- Incorporating
practical curriculum matrices to determine
which components of the teaching and
learning programme are suited to delivery
via technology and the web
- Deciding
which software tools can be comfortably
used to create
and publish the online learning
materials
- Investigating
existing online tools that can be used
to support face to face
teaching
- Recognising
the importance of teamwork in the
planning and creation of online learning
resources
- Working
with students to create online
learning resources
Professional
deevelopment workshops
In order to assist
teachers and academic staff
meet the requirements described
above I have created a set of workshops specifically
designed
for educators. The focus of each
workshop is upon the sharing and provision
of practical solutions
that can be used in the classroom. They
are listed below.

Technology
tips for teachers
Teachers are expected to master computers
as technology is programmed
into the syllabi by their respective education departments.
Incorporating technology into your lessons can be quite
a challenge. This challenge is magnified when using the
computer itself proves to be a struggle.
I
have created a set of technology
tips to assist teachers
to overcome some of the daily problems that they face
with computers. New tips will be added on an irregular
basis.
All
of the technology presentations and support documents
are now available from this dedicated
page. They cover
such areas as blogging, podcasting, photoshop, video
processing and comic life.
