Singapore Visit 20th April 2004

The East Coast Parkway (ECP) takes visitors from Singapore's Changi International Airport to the city centre. It is the most incredible entrance to any city. It is tree lined and immacualtely clean. This is thanks to the tireless efforts of the foreign workers (and Singaporeans who are on clean-up duty for littering) who mainatin the foliage and environment. During the 11 weeks I had been back in Australia a new bridge had been constructed across the ECP (see image 015).

At one stage the ECP is perfectly straight and quite wide with planter boxes down the centre. These can be removed at short notice so that fighter aircraft can use this strip as an emergency runway. See images 009 and 010 below. There is a similar road cum airstrip west of Tengah Airbase near Lim Chu Kang.

I made the journey along the ECP on Tuesday, 20th April, 2004 at about 7:15AM before taking Singapore Airlines flight SQ219 back to Sydney. My workshops had come to an end. Back in July! Yes!
